Bringing the Spec to Life: How Bronwen Consulting Supported the FHIRplace PDEX Pilot
When it comes to interoperability, there’s what’s written—and then there’s what actually works.
The FHIRplace PDEX Pilot, led by Drummond Group, set out to bridge that gap: turning policy and specification into something usable, testable, and real. Bronwen Consulting was proud to support that effort—not just in keeping the pilot on track, but in making the work make sense across diverse teams.
Because building a pilot isn’t just about compliance. It’s about collaboration, clarity, and shared understanding.
From Technical Vision to Strategic Execution
Our role extended well beyond logistics. We helped shape the structure and tone of the pilot experience from multiple angles—ensuring that each participant had the context, tools, and support needed to engage meaningfully.
This was about more than executing tasks. It was about aligning people and purpose.
What We Led
Workflow & Test Case Design
We helped develop scenarios that reflected real-world payer-provider dynamics, including nuanced edge cases relevant to claims, prior auth, and member-directed exchange.
Meeting Facilitation & Documentation
We led working sessions that stayed productive, tracked decisions, and kept everyone focused. Our summaries made progress visible and accessible across teams.
Cross-Functional Strategy Support
We helped participants connect their technical work to broader product, policy, and sales narratives—ensuring that what was being built aligned with real organizational goals.
Post-Pilot Insights & Translation
We supported packaging pilot outcomes into clear messaging, content, and learnings—transforming technical results into insights that will guide the next phase of FHIRplace and PDEX development.
Why It Mattered
This wasn’t just a checklist exercise. It was a shared investment in the future of FHIR-based data exchange.
The pilot brought together a unique mix of payers, vendors, and standards leaders—united by the willingness to collaborate, test edge cases, and wrestle with the messy middle of real-world interoperability.
We were proud to support that process—and even more proud of what came out of it: stronger relationships, clarified roadmaps, and a smarter path forward.
What’s Next for FHIRplace
FHIRplace is a promising platform hosted by Drummond Group—long respected for ONC certification and security testing.
It enables real-world, virtual interoperability testing using reusable environments and guided scenarios—helping teams spend less time setting up and more time delivering outcomes.
This model offers a critical stepping stone for those building products, shaping policy, or preparing for certification. And we’re excited to keep supporting that future.
